The 1889 Carmichael's Covered Bridge, a historic Queenpost truss bridge, spans Muddy Creek in Carmichaels, Greene County, Pennsylvania. It's a well-preserved example of a covered bridge, known for its vertical board and batten siding, gable roof with raised-seam tin, and cut stone and concrete abutments. This 64-foot-long bridge is one of the original sites of the Washington & Greene Counties' Covered Bridge Festival, held annually in September.
According to Carmichaelsboro.com, “Although the sign above the bridge states that the bridge was built in 1889, that is incorrect. In 1889, the bridge was renovated. A bridge has stood in that same location since the founding of Old Town. The first post office in Carmichaels began operating in 1822 in Old Town.”
As of October 1978, Carmichaels was one of nine historic covered bridges in Greene County.
Carmichael's Bridge underwent rehabilitation in 1998, ensuring its continued use and preservation.
Carmichael's Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
